Before reviewing the book, allow me a few moments to familiarize you with the She Reads Truth community. Founded in 2012, a small group of women began reading God's Word together and stayed connected with the hashtag #SheReadsTruth. Fast forward through a website (shereadstruth.com) and an app, hundreds of thousands of women (from all backgrounds, generations, locations, etc.), led by Amanda Bible Williams (not me, and yes, her real name) and Raechel Myers, gather to read God's timeless truth that is absolutely applicable in our unique lives.
She Reads Truth: Holding Tight to Permanent in a World That's Passing Away is written by Amanda and Raechel, seamlessly alternating chapter by chapter between their memoirs. The author is indicated at the beginning of each chapter which is extremely helpful. I read the hardcopy of the book, but also downloaded the audible version, which is narrated by the authors. Both versions are excellent. If I had to choose a favorite medium, hearing the voices of the authors tell their stories was compelling and quite frankly, almost impossible for me to turn off.
I anticipated loving this book, because I'm a fan of #SheReadsTruth. However, God placed this beautiful linen-covered labor of love in my path at exactly the right time. (He's good like that.) Through the poignant gift of story-telling, Amanda and Raechel invite the reader to step up to the window looking into their pasts. They tenderly share their most vulnerable moments, making the reader simultaneously shed tears of joy and sorrow. There are paragraphs you will nod your head, absolutely able to relate or remember a similar chapter in your history, but there are also described scenarios when certain remembrances will stop you dead in your tracks and render you speechless, possibly taking you to a sweet place of confession and surrender. Shared experiences vary from loss of parents, to divorce, to multiple miscarriages, to financial hardship, and at times, crisis of faith. In other words, LIFE as we know it.
This book inspires me to continue sharing my story, but not because of the story itself. Because of the Truth that stood rock solid in Amanda's story of desperation and heartache—the Truth that held hope together during Raechel's most desperate hours—and the same Truth that allows me to lay my head down at night knowing my God will give me what I need to live victoriously through the ups, downs, and sideways of the next day.
She Reads Truth contains 10 chapters, bookended by relevant, life-giving Scripture.
This gem falls into the game changer category for me and I highly recommend with 5 stars.
