I just got a major dose of reality from a very, very unexpected source. As Believers you and I spend our days waiting, watching, for a word from God. We believe that He has presence in this world and our very lives. Yet you need this dose of reality and truth just as badly as I do. You need to hear this word and you'll need to know exactly where it came from. And when you hear all of it you'll be as overwhelmed as I am now. You'll be humbled, aggravated, and disappointed in yourself but here it is.
My source was my enemy.
As I sat questioning the things that are surrounding me and my family right now I couldn't have been more overwhelmed and worried about what the future holds. Life is flying by at the speed of light. My kids are growing up in an uncertain world. The "texture" of my skin is changing, if ya know what I mean. The hairs on my head are losing their color if ya know what I mean. The cars break down. The kids get sick. The specialists want to get paid. The schedule is constantly overlapping. And that's just MY world. What's overwhelming you? Maybe you have a job that just sucks the life right out of you before you even make it to your lunch break each day. Maybe you'd give anything to even have a job, even one like that. Maybe you're overwhelmed with depression so deep that the thought of seeing people today is just more than you can take. Maybe you have to make a decision between paying the light bill and paying for groceries. Maybe you've had to have a parent teacher conference for the fifth time this year.
It's easy to feel like the Israelites being enveloped on all sides by a vast army and a rising sea. We know how that story ended. So why in the world do we continue with this spirit of fear and defeat? You ready for your dose of reality? Ready to get a word from the one who would rather deflate, defeat, and devour you than ever see you take another breath of air? Buckle up because it's rough:
Because we're humans who often give more credence to what the Enemy says about us, than what our Enemy KNOWS about us. Did that hit you in the gut like it did me today? See, I already know what God says about me. But when I choose to hunker down and have a good wallow in my circumstances I'm choosing to listen to another source.
The enemy KNOWS that the victory is ours.
The enemy KNOWS that he might come up with some kind of fancy weapon to use against you, but it can't prosper.
The enemy knows that he might have some kind of dirt to use on you, but that God can turn that plan on a dime and use it for HIS good.
The enemy knows that you are sealed until the day of salvation and there is nothing, nothing, NOTHING that can break the seal of the Living God. You are His.
The enemy knows all of this and more. The enemy knows the truth about you even if you don't.
Now this doesn't mean that everything is peachy and rosey all the time. It doesn't mean that you can't have a good cry or even feel anxiety about what's going to happen in your world. I love what Psalm 50:12 says, "Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and give me a willing spirit to sustain me." There will be times when we are waiting on joy to return. The Psalmist reminds us that He will sustain us in the gaps with a willing spirit so the enemy's lies do nothing more than buzz in our ears. He sustains you—sometimes just so you can put one step in front of the other. He sustains you—and the heavens erupt with silent reverie at His Beloved; whose labored steps thunder through the halls of life, drowning out the lies that fall dead in your wake.
You are HIS.
You are loved beyond reason.
You are victorious and royal.
You will be sustained through this.
This is the truth the Enemy doesn't want you to hear or believe.
This is the Joy of your salvation.
