Can we just take a second to realize that the world doesn't revolve around us and shift our gaze back to Jesus? It's so easy to get caught up in life and more specifically... Ourselves. We are worried about our jobs, health, vacations, kids, significant others, sports practices, church functions, pleasing others & the list goes on and on. We squeeze out our fifteen-minute devotion (almost) every morning & label ourselves good Christian folks. And compared to a lot of other people, we probably are. But what if we are comparing ourselves to Jesus? Yeah.. Not looking so great now.
We are selfish humans who are constantly looking to the world for acceptance or just trying to pass under the radar of their harsh criticism, or maybe some of us try to walk the line of the world & Christian (which never works out). We forget that we are not of this world, we just live in it. Our church has created this 'norm' that if you go to church, read your Bible, tithe & don't sin in public- you get the good Christian star. We bake casseroles for sick friends and decorate for Vacation Bible School but what are we sacrificing? How are we reaching the lost? Are our hearts burdened for the broken battered people of this world?
We will rise up and speak about things that offend our beliefs, building walls between us and those different than us. While we should be different than the people of the world, isolating ourselves from them is not the answer either.. LOVE IS.
We need to break down these walls and start building bridges. We need to show them the love the way that Jesus did, not treat them disgust. Their sins nailed Jesus' body to that cross just like mine and yours. This is not a time for division; it's a time to come together as the body of Christ!
Are we so selfish to think that we can somehow control the events of time or believe that we play some role in the changing of history? Or have we forgotten that God has already won?! We need not worry about anything in or of this world except seeking Jesus' face and showing His love to those who so desperately need it.
We must put aside our pride and our close minded ways of thinking that only lead to division in the Body of Christ. We have to start praying for each other and this world. God has it under control; He can handle it all because He is bigger than anything we will ever face.
We have to give Him everything which means we have to be willing to sacrifice ANYTHING. It's a terrifying prayer to pray because we may lose things we love but we have to trust that His plan is perfect. We hold onto things because we care more about what we want than what God wants.
“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”
Philippians 2:3-4 ESV
God gave His son so that we might have life but are we really living if it isn't for Him?
“And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.” Colossians 3:15 ESV
Here's the deal. We are victorious if we have been saved by Jesus' blood. We have nothing to fear but God himself. He is the only thing that matters; everything else is pointless. Our hearts and minds have to be full of Him and not ourselves. Let's stop acting like Christians and start being like Christ. Let's reach people with love and not separate ourselves by our differences.
LOVE GOD. LOVE OTHERS.
God can handle the rest.
