I Peter 5:7
“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you”
A familiar verse to most of us, but often minimized. We mostly look at this verse as some type of stress pressure valve, instead of the generous potion of affection responsible for our anxious relief. Anxiety comes from living in a fallen world, and like gnats on a summer day it swarms us and follows us till we can find some type of relief. We are also fallen people and by default generate anxiety in our hearts mostly because we refuse to live within God’s pace, God’s provision, God’s perspective. We need to see that the amount to which we rest in God’s potion effects how radically outside anxiety will control us. In other words by abiding in God, outside sources of stress can be minimized! The trick is “casting” them on God.
When I was a kid I did a lot of fishing. There was an underwater drop off about 50 feet off the end of our dock where fish were known to gather. I would do everything I could to cast my Zebco 303 out to where the fish gathered. One day the wind was in my face and I cast so hard I broke the rod and into the river my tackle went.
This is the way we need to cast our stressors on God. How can we do this casting and rest? Because of the most important part of the Peter’s exhortation, “He cares for you.” God cares about what’s happening with us all today and calls us to let Him be our portion. God would have us fling our lives out to Him and rest in His care for us today….Blessings to all P.B.
