If you're a fan of Peretti or Dekker, you will enjoy local author Brian Peckham's debut novel, Vengeance is Mine. A paranormal tale of good versus evil, Vengeance is Mine is not for the faint of heart. Peckham's descriptive style of writing allows the story to visually unfold in your imagination. He paints good as good with characters who glimmer with the hope of redemption and he paints evil as evil motivated by a diabolical caricature of evil personified. Here is the summary provided by Amazon:
"Famous Author Brett Gardner, despondent over the death of his beloved wife and craving revenge upon her uncaptured murderer, finds himself browsing the shelves of a most unusual library. The mysterious Librarian, who curates the collection of arcane volumes, offers Brett help in the form of a book, a book that causes the reader to question the nature of reality and retribution.
The Librarian moves on, visiting the traumatized victims of heinous crimes across the country, each from a different walk of life, each suffering from different circumstances, each longing for the same thing... revenge. The Librarian offers these victims his assistance, and his mystical talents, promising that vengeance shall be visited upon their enemies.
Will they succeed in extracting their pound of flesh, or does the Librarian have ulterior motives? And how does each victim relate to Brett Gardner's tragic story... and each other's?"
I will put a bit of a warning on this read. Peckham doesn't tip toe around what evil looks, smells, sounds, and breathes like. His description is true and very realistic.
