I love learning new ways to think about things. I’m a sucker for life hack videos on Facebook. I especially love when I can ‘chew on’ and mull over new ways to think about my God and His word. In one season of my life, I became so familiar with the 23 Psalm, I can remember chewing and gnawing on the words every morning before work. One day I realized the valley wasn’t that bad of a gig…
You anoint my head with oil? My cup overflows? Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life?
...granted I don’t want to be in the valley forever, but it wasn’t so bad.
Another perspective changer was introduced to me recently. Investing. We spend a lot of time thinking about the future and retirement on earth. I was introduced to the thought of a retirement plan in heaven. Yep, a heavenly 401k. How does that work? Well… I believe investing in people will produce heavenly dividends. Yesterday I facilitated the young professionals class at church. As we were talking about this subject I was urged by the Holy Spirit to invest in them, so I invited them home for lunch. The smiles and laughter were reward enough here on earth but I can only imagine God’s pleasure in my simple obedience. It’s not strategic ‘what am I going to get for this’, it’s the pleasure of spending time with and encouraging His children … that is reward enough. Hey, it’s a double blessing… a Now & Later! That was my favorite candy as a kid!
Spend some time with the thought of investing in your future, your eternal future, and what that means for you. I will also pray you will spend time with God’s word, allow Him to write it on your heart, cause you to chew on it, mull it over and fall in love with it and Him all over again.
