As an indie writer/publisher, I'm learning the ins and outs of the industry one mistake at a time. Here is a prime example of my 'growth'. Daughter of the King (2nd book) and Maker of the Rain (3rd book) were published through Amazon, CreateSpace. Wonderful resource for authors trying to get their writing out in the wide world of books. I've learned more about editing, formatting, the likes and dislikes of kindle, and distribution that I ever wanted to know. Truly, I just like to write. But I appreciate a good education, and that is what this has been. Anyway, back to the books. If you open up the books, they are missing one essential element-page numbers. Why, you ask? I wish to the heavens I could give you a pseudo-philosophical answer. Transparent and honest: I forgot them. Yep. Just plain forgot. Really, didn't even notice they were missing until a fan pointed it out. Sigh.
Fast forward to Maker of the Rain Volume 2. On my hundredth proof, eyes crossed, I noticed every other page had a page number. This time, I could have 'fixed' it. This time, I knew what to do. However, I chose not to. I can hear all my OCD friends screaming from the rooftops. "WHY, Amanda?" Growth, that's why. I'm not there yet. I'm a work in progress, one baby step forward every day.
A work in progress . . . aren't we all? Whether you are nine or ninety-nine, in progress is a powerful concept. In progress means, the Lord isn't done with you yet. As long as there is breath in your body, you have the opportunity to live out your divine purpose. Seize the day, carpe diem, all that jazz.
Will I make the every other page number my signature? Not sure about that, although the visual of me playing hopscotch through the book does make me smile.
