Fervent: A Woman's Battle Plan to Serious, Specific, and Strategic Prayer by New York Times best-selling author, Priscilla Shirer, is a passionate call to war. Know your enemy, think like your enemy, and prepare for constant attack, but most importantly, prepare to fight. The words on the page are specific and meant to draw the reader out of complacency. Specific, targeted preparation with a lot of on-your-knees and on-your-face, in your prayer closet battle time. This book isn't about prayer; it's prayer in action.
Broken down into ten strategies, Mrs. Shirer discusses how the true enemy (Satan) targets your passion, focus, identity, family, past, fears, purity, pressures, hurts and relationships. The book is chalked full of scripture to personalize and quote in the face of the attacker.
"God has deliberately chosen this particular vehicle as the one that drives His activity in people's lives. It's what He allows us to use to cooperate and partner with Him in the fulfilling of His will. He's created prayer as a primary way of putting us into personal contact with Him and with HIs eternal realities, any hour of the day or night."
I will be reading this book multiple times. It holds a permanent spot in my prayer closet because of its practical application. You will want to write in it, underline passages, and use it as a battle buddy. I was inspired, convicted, and propelled to do something. To call out who my real enemy is and focus my energy on the Hope of Jesus.
As she points out:
"He is all-powerful. He is sovereign. He is right and true and eternally glorious, impervious to the enemy's intentions. And whatever comes next in your life, it will undoubtedly be another opportunity for you to be swept up into your Father's arms and carried through it."
I highly recommend this book as a vital resource in your prayer arsenal. It is a focus tool with note pages and prayer strategy pages provided in the back. Fervent is 127 pages and takes a few hours to read from front to back, but you aren't going to want to fly through this one. It is rich, which means you have to digest and plan. Get ready, y'all! This one will inspire change, big-time!
