My husband of 19 years and counting has an endearing nickname for me, Bippity Boppity Boo. Why, you ask? Do I carry a magic wand around with me turning household objects into magical goodies? Do I wiggle my nose and make things happen? No, but that would be really, really cool!
He laughingly, lovingly, adoringly (I choose to believe all of these adverbs) calls me that because of my 'gift' to throw things together at the last minute. Many women are multi-taskers by nature and I definitely fall into that category. I even contemplated listing all the weird combinations of tasks I perform simultaneously, but I refuse to put that information in writing. You see, with that compliment (again, choosing to believe the best) comes a harsh reality. Sometimes (most of the time), I 'bippity boppity boo' because I'm afraid to stop. I'm extremely task oriented because accomplishing a list of 'to dos' excuses me from being still. Even at this moment, I am folding laundry, writing this blog, replying to emails and exercising (don't even ask).
However, God, my loving Father/Disciplinarian is teaching me to stop. You know, that whole 'Be still and know' thing? Sigh. He really must adore me because His patience is unending. I'm so bad at it! Getting better. . .I do stop and read (OK, 3 books at a time) while the coffee is brewing. However, He has driven me to my knees and even on my face to take time and really KNOW Him. So, if I have any kindred spirits out there, let me encourage you this morning. The big, bad monster called STOP will not hurt you; it might be a little scary at first, but God has the market on giving sweet whispers that comfort in the midst of the silence.
