This Domestic Diva has been in a bit of an overwhelmed haze recently. There are just sometimes when things pile up and don't get done. However, my sometimes became more like, continually. Sigh! Now that I'm on the other side of all of that (hopefully), I realized that I needed to do some deep cleaning in my house.
I wanted to keep things simple. I remember my mom teaching me how to clean as a little girl......the simple way. Why do we buy into all the different cleaning products when we don't need much. I got my Lysol multi surface cleaner out.....lemon scented..... and made a bucket full of cleaning solution. I cleared my kitchen counters and wiped everything down with my solution. It felt so nice to get part of the kitchen cleaned! I just stared at the empty, cleaned counter for a moment.....it was so pretty! The next things to clean were the wooden items I had displayed on my counter.
These wooden items are some of my treasures. You see my granpap made them (and much more). My recipe box was a gift that I received for my bridal shower, the baking tool was my gramma's and the oil lamp...well, I can't remember when I got that one....but they are all special to me. I have learned that all wooden items need some oil from time to time. You dust them weekly, but every now and then you need to rub them down in mineral oil. This helps keep the wood from becoming brittle and dried out. When I finished, they shined so brightly! They looked like the day I received them.....(smile).....and made me think of my grandparents.
I am continuing to clean and dust the house.....but I am reminded that the house isn't the only thing that needs cleaning.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
