How do you eat an elephant? That’s right, one bite at a time.
While having a beautiful conversation with a Christian who had spent her entire life in religion but had just begun a relationship with Christ, concern was expressed regarding being obedient to the Spirit of God. The idea of being obedient in all things was so overwhelming, defeat and resignation were trying to take hold. “Small acts of obedience lead to large acts of obedience.” I heard myself say.
Jesus was obedient to the point of death. Philippians 2:8
We are to take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 2:5
Obedience comes from faith for His name sake. Romans 1:5
And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. 2 John 1:6
Just as you eat an elephant, one bite at a time, you begin obedience as each opportunity arises. As your faith grows, so will your obedience. As we show love and receive love we will desire to obey. As we take every thought captive we grow in Him. Then we will become obedient to the point of death—death to self and sin nature becoming more and more like our Savior.
