Today our world is filled with so much violence, hate, and morally reversed things; it’s easy to lose sight of hope. We can quickly get caught up in panic mode when things start to spiral out of control. If you are like me, a control freak, this is not an ideal situation to be in. I like knowing when things are going to happen and how to react when problems arise. I need to have a plan. But I am learning the more I try to control, the more I realize that on my own, incapable of doing God’s job.
My heart has been so burdened lately about our country and the state that it is in. I feel as though we are on a downward slope that is getting steeper by the minute. Our world is becoming a place that I no longer feel as safe to live in.
It seems like everyone’s opinion matters except for Christians’. The world will run to defend those “brave” enough to be their “true” self but curse the Christians who are taking a stand for their beliefs. If you want to make a choice that goes with the flow of the world, they will sing your praises, but as soon as you dig your heels in and start moving against the current, they come at you hard from all sides trying to push you back into the flow. Sometimes they win the battle but rest assured by friends, Jesus will win the war.
Psalm 33 has brought so much hope to my soul regarding the current state of our world. We have to remember that no matter how crazy this world gets, GOD IS STILL IN CONTROL.
“The Lord foils the plans of the nations; He thwarts the purposes of the peoples. But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of His heart through all generations.” Psalm 33:10-11
We serve a God who has already won. When all these horrible things keep happening, God knew they would, and He has a plan. He is not surprised by anything going on right now; does that not bring peace to your soul?! When this life gets hard, we have to come together as the body of Christ. We must all stand together; dig our heels in to stand strong against the evil of this world. God’s love is faithful and cannot fail; He has not forgotten about those who love Him. Satan is powerful, but we know that He has already been defeated by Jesus’ blood on the cross! He still has to ask God for permission for everything He does! No matter what trials we face in this life, we can put our hope in a God who has never failed. He is victorious!
“My hope is built on nothing less, than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name. On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.” –Edward Mote
It is hard to be a follower of Jesus, and it can be REALLY hard not to just throw up the white flag and give into the temptations the world has to offer. Satan has a way of making us forget that God’s plan always prevails and try to drag us into a season of hopelessness. He uses our weaknesses as footholds in our life to pull us deeper into the lie that there is no way out. This is why we have to keep our hearts buried in the promises of God’s truth.
“We wait in hope for the Lord; He is our help and shield. In Him, our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name. May Your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in You.” Psalm 33-20-22
These verses bring joy to my heart. In the midst of darkness and hopelessness, GOD IS STILL IN CONTROL. He is trustworthy, faithful, and loves us more than we could ever imagine. He formed the heart of each and every person on earth (Psalm 33:15), and yet we freak out when things get out of our hands. God wants us to trust Him and His plan for our lives, our neighbors, and our world. We only need to follow where He leads us.
“But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear Him, on those who hope is in His unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.” Psalm 33:18-19
So what will we choose to fear: God or the world? Will we put our hope in the Creator of every heart or ourselves? Will we surrender when the ways of the world beat down on us or dig in our heels and stand firm on the solid rock of Jesus Christ?
I pray we choose Jesus, the Founder, and Perfector of our faith. Let’s soak ourselves in His perfect love and put our hope only in Him! In Him, our weaknesses are made strengths and through Him, we will not fail.
Have a great week & keep seeking Jesus!
