Today society labels everything and everyone. Fat, skinny, ugly, pretty, educated, stupid, racist, hippie, Christian, Muslim, gay, straight, republican, democrat.. The list goes on and on. There are so many labels to choose from that you can have as many or as few as you like and probably even get some you don't want. We've all gotten so caught up in labels and who we want and pretend to be that we lose who we are.. Who we were created to be.
When we make Jesus the King of our lives, He gives us the most amazing label.. HIS.
When we are His, it doesn't matter what category anyone else puts us in. We become royalty. We become a part of something so much bigger than this world has to offer.
God's label is forever. It doesn't change with time or go out of style.
In Isaiah 49:15b-16a, it says "..Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands...” How beautiful is that?
This is not something to take lightly. We represent the Most High King. That can be a little intimidating at times because we are all only human, who fail and fall daily. We have been given this honor to carry His name to the lost, the broken, and confused world. God doesn't reserve His precious label for just a select few, He is more of a one size fits all.. & not like those spandex shirts that were popular in the 90s that "fit" everyone, He is like a custom made dress or suit that fits like a glove. For girls my age, the sisterhood of the traveling pants.. Okay now I'm comparing God to jeans.. Let me get back on track.
My point is that, no matter where you are, what you have done, what you or the world has labeled you as.. It doesn't matter because His label covers them all.
He wants you. He loves you. He claims you, NO MATTER WHAT.
We all want to feel wanted. Everyone wants a place where we feel like we belong. It makes me so sad to see people force themselves into labels that they were never meant to carry. We try to find some kind of fulfillment from the labels we create for ourselves, that we think will make us better, but we are only thinking about the here and now instead of eternity. We have to start defining ourselves by God’s standards instead of the world's. We live in a world that is constantly telling us that we aren’t good enough and sets impossible standards that we kill ourselves trying to meet. And why? Because we forget that we can come, just the way we are, into His presence. We get caught up in gaining the world’s love and acceptance when Jesus pours His love over us freely and loves us just the way we are. Sometimes we cover the label He has given us with others without meaning to and we need to be reminded of who we belong to. It is crucial for those of us that carry His name to remind each other OFTEN of the beauty we represent.
Only one label is needed.. HIS. It is the only one that will last beyond the grave! Focus on the fact that you are more than any title someone can place on you, that doesn't define you.. Jesus does. He has to be our identity. Instead of creating different groups and labels, let's throw them off and pick up our label that was paid with Jesus' blood! We are the body of Jesus, we have to come together and stop letting the world create separation in our church. We are ONE. We are HIS.
“Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.” Psalms 100:3
“So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.”
Have a great week and remember you are His!
My name is Morgan Maxwell, I am 24 years old. I have a passion for Jesus & cupcakes. I love to write about what God presses on my heart and I pray that through me, people would better know Him.
“..Even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; and rend your hearts and not your garments.” Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster.” Joel 2:12-13
This is my favorite verse because it's such an amazing reminder that no matter what, God still wants us.. "Even Now". You are never too far gone to be used by Him! My life is a testimony of that truth and I am so happy to share my adventures with Jesus with you all!
