I've been trying to get this school year off to a good start. TRYING.
Parents are you with me? Did you have every intention of getting yourself and kids organized with new planners, and slick new scheduling apps that sync with all your online calendars and social media events? We aren't a month into the new school year and my apps alarms seem to go off every 6 minutes and I don't know why. I don't plan on doing anything but sleeping at 3:42am. My schedules are already crossed and overloaded. School assignments are starting to pop up unannounced. The peace I have attempted to force into my schedule refuses to cooperate. I guess no one has discovered a way to force peace into anything. We are barely into September and everything is fighting for space. Anyone remember that 90's band Greenday? Now I know why they wrote the song, "Wake Me Up When September Ends".
I refuse to succumb to heavy traffic this year. I'm not going to get run over by the schoolwork bus and the extra-curricular activities train. As I continually make this promise to my family, my sweet God pointed out His very words in the Psalms this week:
"Step out of traffic! Take a long, loving look at me, your High God, above politics...above everything." Psalm 46:10b.
Now just how fitting is that for your day, my friends? My search for the Pace of God has led me into distracted areas filled with heavy traffic. Are you distracted by heavy traffic and politics? Yeah, me to.
When Moses was leading God's people out of Pharaoh's enslavement, they had finally escaped his hands and hit a dead end at the Red Sea. They turned and saw Pharaoh's army coming after them as fast and hard as they possibly could. Desperate for freedom, they scurried for rocks, sticks, staffs, any weapon they could possibly find to secure their new found freedom. I'm sure those mamas and daddys were not letting anyone take their babies back into bondage even if it meant fighting with twigs and pebbles. God told Moses to speak to the people, saying:
"Don't be afraid. Stand firm and watch God do His work of salvation for you today... God will fight the battle for you. And you? You must be quiet." Exodus 14:14
God just told me to shut up and I love it!
God's message for you today is incredibly relevant my friends.
Step out of the heavy traffic.
Don't worry about anything, not even politics right now.
When the heavy traffic comes do what Moses did...Get quiet, find God, and let Him fight your battles for you.
In that quiet place is where we regroup and where peace comes.
