Have you been, are you in, the valley? You know, the one where everything stinks? The valley of the shadow of death. I am, have been, will be at some point … in the valley. While it’s not a place I want to stay forever, I have come to appreciate the nuances of being in the valley. I’ve spent enough time there with Him and His word to begin to chew on the 23rd Psalm.
“The Lord is my shepherd… He makes me lie down in green pastures”… oh, God, how I need to rest. “He restores my soul…” I’m so parched and in need of restoration. Seriously?! “You prepare a table before me...?” He anoints my head with oil; my cup overflows.” … and it’s messy!
It’s easier to breathe knowing goodness and mercy are right with me and that one day my forever home will be with the Lord, forever.
So chew on this if life seems hopeless, or a situation seems never ending. I promise the Word of the Lord will sow hope in your hurting heart knowing you are not alone in this valley.
Is that a stench or a fragrance? Is this valley filled with dry, rotting bones and flesh or is it a meadow with lush grass and fragrant flowers? Can we choose how we see it? I will look for the meadow to walk barefoot in while I drink in the aroma beside the still waters. Perspective…
